Nigel Farage, Part 2!
OK, so I wasn’t going to write another article on Mr Nigel Farage, but I can’t help myself when I see the latest videos! (click here for my first article)
First of all I have to talk about the recent incident when somebody threw a milk shake over him. I can not say it strongly enough that that was totally out of order, no matter what you think of anybody! Grow up people!
A little while ago, a friend was complaining about the ‘remoaners’, as she put it, wanting another referendum, and that if the result had been to stay in the EU they would have merely accepted it. BTW, I personally have never said that I wanted another referendum, but I am lumped together with those who have said it. However, I was interested to read an old article, dated 16th May 2016 (i.e. before the referendum took place), when Nigel Farage stated that he wants a second referendum if Remain campaign scrapes a narrow win!! He said, “In a 52-48 referendum this would be unfinished business by a long way. If the remain campaign win two-thirds to one-third that ends it.” A few weeks later he stated, “I think it’s legitimate to say that if people feel they have lost control completely, and we have lost control of our borders completely as members of the EU, and if people feel that voting doesn’t change anything then violence is the next step“.
At a Brexit event in 2017 he again threatened violence, stating that if Theresa May fails to deliver Brexit in the fashion he wants, that “as much as I’m enjoying myself… I enjoy my trips to the States with Trump and the White House and everything else. I’m enjoying my life… I will be forced to don a khaki, pick up a rifle and head for the front lines”. Now, I am as fed up with the whole situation as everybody else, but, really? Jason Hunter, who was at the event, stated, “That’s as close to threatening anarchy and incitement to riot that I think I’ve EVER heard from a so-called politician.”
I’ve talked before how Farage calls on voters to punish “greedy Labour, Conservative and Lib Dem MPs”, yet in the past has boasted about how much money he can get as an MEP. On being asked about his non-salary expenses and allowances between 1999 and 2009, Farage replied, “It is a vast sum, I don’t know what the total amount is but – oh lor – it must be pushing £2 million.” And that is of course on top of his excellent salary. Farage further said that, while MEPs were “very expensive”, he was entirely happy that the money had been used for the best of causes.” But surely, aren’t expenses are supposed to be simple reimbursements for money spent, so how can he say that?!
Now it seems that Farage is facing investigation by the EU for not declaring about £450,000. Catherine Bearder, MEP, said, “Nigel Farage says he is a man of the people standing up to a corrupt elite, but he has been less than transparent about his lavish lifestyle.”
One moment he is telling the media that he did not receive funding from Aaron Banks. Later the same day, when advised in an interview that Aaron Banks said he DID fund that amount, Farage retorted that it was purely personal, private; that he was leaving politics, that it happened mostly in America, that it had nothing to do with politics, nothing to do with the Brexit Party, that it was purely on a personal basis; “I was looking for a new career and a new life, it’s got nothing to do with anything”. The thing is though, that he was, and still is, an MEP (albeit in name only!!!) and it therefore did not matter if it was personal as it was a matter of conflict. That’s despite all the videos and media show of his trip to America show him talking purely about politics and brexit, nothing else, so who is he trying to kid?
Catherine Bearder states, “the code of conduct for members of the European parliament with respect to financial interests and conflicts of interest, in particular Article 6(1) of the implementing measures, makes it clear that members shall disclose their attendance at events organised by third parties where the reimbursement of their travel, accommodation or subsistence expenses, or the direct payments of such expenses, is covered by a third party,” The reason for having this is to ensure there is no conflict of interest.
And of course, Mr Aaron Banks is being investigated by the National Crime Agency at the moment.
But this isn’t the first time Mr Farage has been in trouble about his finances. Last year, in a separate run-in with expenses rules, he had his MEP salary docked by more than £35,000 to recoup misspent EU funds intended for the staffing of his office. It makes a bit of a farce about all his spouting on about the ‘elite’ in politics!
And this multi-millionaire has the nerve to say that he’s skint and there’s no money in politics!
Then of course there is the question of how will Brexit affect the UK? Whilst it is obvious that nobody really knows just what will happen in any unprecedented time, they can perhaps give a fair estimation. Since the referendum I have always hoped that they are wrong and that the brexiteers are right. However, for me it is even more worrying when Lucy Harris, of the Brexit Party, says that brexit is worth it “at any cost”, and that the effect on economy could last for the next 30 years!! Nigel Farage has also said it’s worth it at any cost. Of course he is a multi-millionaire and will probably be able to cash in on a recession very nicely thank you! Sounds like a case of, “I’m alright Jack – sod you lot”!
Next we come to the question of being a nationalist. To be honest, I’ve only just recently looked into exactly what this means, and I have to admit that I don’t like it! But, hey!, Farage clearly stated he is NOT a nationalist, despite being best of pals with the likes of Donald Trump, Beatrix von Storch (granddaughter of Hitler’s finance minister, and the deputy leader of the notorious far-right party AfD) and Steve Bannon (look him up if you don’t know about him!). Nope, of course he isn’t a nationalist – he has declared himself a NATIONIST (WTF?!)! Well I suppose that’s about on a par with making up a new definition of ‘unelected’!
The reasons for Farage leaving UKIP are not without questions either. Interesting that, whilst leader of the party in 2014, Farage demanded that all incoming UKIP MEPs signed a letter stating they would hand their seats back to the party should they leave. Did Farage resign his seat as MEP on leaving UKIP? HUH, did he heck!
Then of course there is The Brexit Party! When Farage left UKIP he already had the makings of The Brexit Party in place. In fact, he had started thinking about it back in 2015
